Spider Cider Card

Happy Halloween to those who celebrate it!  Hope you have fun trick-or-treating, handing out the treats, or just enjoying the Fall weather.

For today’s project, I am sharing a new-to-me technique that has been around for a long time – using a paper napkin as part of a decoration!

I purchased the napkin at the Dollar Tree and learned about the paper napkin technique from a video on YouTube.  For this technique, you start out with a decorative paper napkin and take apart all the layers until you are left with only the top decorative layer.  The rest can be discarded.  I used Neenah Solar White cardstock for the image.  On my ironing board, I layered some copy paper, the cardstock, a piece of plastic wrap (cut to slightly larger than the size of the napkin), and another piece of copy paper.  Basically, the copy paper is to protect the surface of the ironing board an the plate of the iron from the plastic wrap.  Iron the “sandwich” with a high heat and the plastic wrap will melt, fusing the napkin to the cardstock.

Once the napkin and cardstock are fused together, you can cut it using either a guillotine paper cutter or scissors.  (Feel free to try with another type of cutter, but my sliding cutter didn’t do anything but tear the napkin!)  I trimmed around the napkin to even off the border.  Then, I embossed some Treasures 80# Mango Orange cardstock with a spiderweb embossing folder.  After it was embossed, I inked it using some Tuxedo Black ink before mounting the piece of cardstock with the spider napkin on top.

If you haven’t given this technique a try, please do!  It is an easy way to create a quick card.
