Hand-made Dogwood Blossoms

Hello everyone!  It’s Roberta here.

I’m filling in for Tina who,  I’m sorry to say, is a bit under the weather.  I hope she’s feeling better very soon!!

My project that I want to share with you today is a really simple one to make.  It was inspired by a little purse shaped picture frame that my Mom had given me some time ago.  I just love the small flower in the upper right of the purse.  It makes me think of dogwood trees and they make me think of spring.  After this brutal winter we’ve had here in Indiana, I am so very ready for spring!  So I decided to add some hand-made paper dogwood blossoms to the picture insert area.  They are amazingly easy to make.  You can find a nice tutorial on YouTube right here.

Since I don’t have a small balloon punch (like the one used in the video) I used a balloon cut from Create a Critter and my Cricut.  The balloons were cut at 3/4″ with the real dial size button clicked.  To get the little notch, I used an old fashioned hole punch and just did a half circle at the tip of each petal.  I used chalks for the pink tips and green centers of the petals.  A super fine tip black marker was used to add the little dots in the green area of each petal.  I then shaped and assembled all of the flowers just as shown in the video.  My final variation is that I used a small mound of glue in the center of each blossom and put about 9 dark yellow seed beads in the glue.  The bird and twig stamp is from Tim Holtz’s Urban Grunge stamp set….LOVE that set!  I embossed it with dark brown embossing powder.  Finally, the leaves were cut using Spellbinder’s Shapeabilities Foliage set and I added the same colors of chalk while they were still in the die.

The Gorgeous Paper Temptress papers used to make this project are:

Poison Ivory Iridescent for the flowers.  I really wish my camera could pick up the beautiful, subtle shimmer that this paper has…it is gorgeous!

Autumn Hay Glimmer.  I used the text weight for the background paper.  You are able to see some of the glimmer on this incredible paper.  I could just eat this stuff up; I love it so much!  You can find this in the Valentine’s Day Package also.  This variety pack is such an awesome way to try out some of the most beautiful papers that Paper Temptress offers.

Thanks so much for stopping by to take a look at my little frame project.  I hope you’ll visit tomorrow too.  I have a very masculine Valentine’s Day card that I’m so excited to share with you.
