Yep… THAT’S MY mom!!! My project today is something I haven’t done in forever… an “explosion box”!! I think these ar the perfect way to display photos as a gift AND… a truly beautiful way to “wrap a present”!
Of course I stamped my image on Cryogen paper and colored it with my Copic Sketch markers. I cut my lovely lady out before adhering her to my box lid. My mom’s favorite color is blue but my dad really likes her in yellow so my little gift to her should make them both smile. Right?! 😉
I took a close up so that you could see the fun glittered leaf I added under my flowers. When I opened these they were all silver and that is fine.. but I really figured if I was going to go with the “golden” theme of yellow, I needed to change that a bit. Heidi Swapp Color Shine to the rescue!!! I quick spritz of the Mustard and a bright silver leaf turns more golden. I really like how Heidi’s Color Shine colors so well. Oh and.. hey… I didn’t want you to miss my cute little vellum butterfly. Hee Hee
Of course, all the sides are the same but I wanted to remind you. Since the sides DO fall open when you remove the lid, I didn’t want to either clutter the sides OR the area the lid might come into contact with by adding anything below it. So, a simple bit of lace around the top served as minimal decoration. Oh… and I HAVE to tell you… my lace actually came all the way from Croatia!! OMGosh, I was terrible at geography in school, I am not sure I even knew there WAS such a place nor that they had such beautiful lace. 😉
I added yellow and blue layers of papers onto my base heavy weight paper which included Mica/Metallic Gold and Mica/Metallic Aquamarine. I LOVE the added shimmer it gives. Of course you know there should be pictures inside these flaps, right? Well… to be honest with you. I AM giving this to my mom for Mother’s Day… and well… I INTEND to put pics of us… she AND “I” on the sides. And NO.. I do NOT like pictures of me. But hey, it’s my mom…she loves me no matter what. But YOU… NO, YOU do NOT get to see pics of me!! Ha Ha! Just trust me when I say, there will be photos added… later.
Oh and that tiny little box inside. Just a simple square with a flap that has a few holes under the ribbon to tie it closed. I was AMAZED with the White Velvet paper I used for this. OMGosh… not ONLY does it feel soft and buttery and rich…it was such a sturdy paper to work with!!! My box felt “solid”!! And it folded wonderfully!!! You MUST MUST try this paper!!! It’s like nothing I’ve ever used before. Tucked inside is a necklace and bracelet I hope she will love just as much as those pictures of me!! HA HA! Ok… more maybe! Once I added it and tied the bow to see how it looked, I decided I’d probably never get it tied so nicely again so the jewels will remain unseen today.
I hope you enjoyed seeing my explosion box and I hope you give it a try. Maybe do a little something you’ve either forgotten about or try something new if you’ve nev made one. They really are a great little table conversation piece and there are sooo many ways to make it fit perfectly in your decor.
As always, we appreciate your stopping by and sharing in our love for crafting! And hopefully you get a wee bit inspired by the things we share. Have a fabulous day!!! *HUGS*
P.S. Just to let you know, my box using the White Velvet was cut using my Silhouette Cameo and it again performed beautifully!!!
