HQ Watercolor Card – the PERFECT journal page material!

Hi All – it’s been a while since I posted as I’ve been having a massive play with all my Paper Temptress goodies, giving them a workout and seeing what they can do.  I know I’ve mentioned before how much I love the HQ Watercolor card, but now I love it even more.  I’ve been doing a little journaling lately and have been giving the stuff a real workout and can I say how beautifully it has held up to everything I’ve thrown at it – I used a sheet for this project which had water, Magicals (powder paint), copics, multiliners etc. The card performed like a champ wet and dry, had enough tooth for the paint and was smooth enough for fine detailing with copic multi-liners (without ruining the nib) – really an amazing all-rounder! LOVE LOVE LOVE my HQ Watercolor – thanks Patricia for stocking it – this piece even appeared at CHA ..

What did I use:

  • Paper Temptress HQ Watercolor Card – it’s fabulous, thick, slightly off white, watercolor lovin’ card!
  • Lindy’s Stamp Gang Magicals: Hottie Patottie Hot Pink, Poinsettia Red, Tiger Lily Orange, Cotton Candy Pink, Ponderosa Pine, Green With Envy Green, Bachelor Button, Delphinium Turquoise, Wake me up Before you Go Gold, Cathedral Pines, Witches Potion Purple, Cajun Carnelian, Marigold Yellow, Mountain Lavender. Sweet Violet, Tiffany’s Blue, Batchelor Button, Freaky Franken Lime, California Golden Poppy and Screamin’ Banshee Black
  • Gold Schminke dry powder Gouache
  • Graphite pencil and blending stump
  • Water brush
  • Copic Multi-liners in size 1. 0.5 & 0.3
  • Sakura Gelly Glaze Pen – Black
  • Viva Décor – Pearl Pen ‘Opal’

What did I do:

Step 1 – draw design on to watercolour card (I use Paper Temptress HQ Watercolor Card) using pencil

Step 2 – Trace over final design using Copic Multi-Liner I used size 1, 0.5 & 0.3

Step 3 – Rub out initial pencil lines before beginning to add first colour.   It is important to apply one colour at a time and to try and let each colour dry before applying the next one (unless aiming for a blended effect).  While this is time consuming it will result in crisp clean colours with no blending along design edges.

Step 4 – Colouring the background is the only area where I let my colours mix and blend on purpose.
I painted the top in a light blue and the bottom in a darker blue – which I allowed to mingle where the colours met.  Once finished colouring – set aside to dry completely before proceding.

Step 5 – Trace over design outlines in black Copic Multi-liner and Sarakura Gelly Glaze pen to highlight and then fill some areas with Zentangle inspired patterns, add a little doodling and text, a few spots of liquid pearls….

and you have either a journal page, scrap book page, card front or canvas, these Magicals are very versatile and work on so many different surfaces!

and so you can all share some of the fun – here are a few picks from CHA @ the Lindy’s Stamp Gang booth, where my HQ Watercolour journal page was displayed.

Have you tried this fabulous card stock yet?
