Suprisingly Simple Cards

Look – look – I can make simple cards!  OK so while not my normal thing it’s something that’s been in the back of my mind since last Christmas, I made what I thought of as a simple Christmas card one of my watchers made a comment along the lines of ‘yes – compared to your normal stuff it is simple, but its not really a simple card’……  Right -  the challenge – to prove to myself I can make something simple!  I’ve tried to stick to the same basic design and have come up with a couple of cards which (I hope) show off the beautiful card stock from Paper Temptress, are simple, elegant and quick to make (though as per usual it took me quite a bit of fiddling until I was happy with the designs).

Thank You Cardthank you card

What I used:

To make this card I created a folded background card from the Eclipse Black, I cut a piece of the very yummy Watercolor paper as the main panel, then I cut a strip of the Laser Black (lines in horizontal direction) and glued this along the bottom (on top of the watercolor paper).  I glued the pink and black ribbon along the join where the 2 card stocks met and used the Wisteria ink to stamp ‘thank you’.  Then I glued the main panel onto the Eclipse black card, stuck the totally big and flashy flower to the base and then comes the bling!  For added effect I traced over the text with Copic Spica pen in Blossom, I added 3 adhesive crystals and then using Glossy Accents I added some Diamond Dust to the flower centre – up close this looks totally gorgeous!  My favorite thing about this card is the repeating pink dots in different sizes.   Now the really great thing about this card pattern is that it will work with any flower with a round center that you can colour, the key is the repeating colours of dots.  Big flowers, small flowers – it doesn’t seem to matter – the dots are the key!  Here are a few close ups so you can see the details and the super yummy card stock….

Happiness & Hugs

OK so this one is a tiny bit less simple, but it still looks simple right so that’s gotta count :O)

What I used:

For this one I’ve intentionally used a similar layout and process, but have made a few additions :O)  For this I have used the Hot Fudge Pop tones card as the folded base and the Grapesicle Pop tones as the main panel.  I’ve stamped the Grapesicle card with Pearlescent Chocolate ink (matches perfectly with the Hot Fudge Pop Tones) and using the same ink I’ve stamped a little panel on the HQ Watercolor paper.  I glued a panel of the Ruched Khaki card along the bottom of the stamped Grapesicle panel and ran all the edges through my Distrezz-it-all.  Once suitable shabby looking, I glued the gorgeous plum coloured Splitz ribbon where the 2 card stocks met and stuck on the yummy flower from Prima – but no I’m not done yet!  I added some Milled Lavender Distress Stickles to the button in the centre of the flower and then added a touch of Ice Stickles over the top – so that it matched a little better with the Grapesicle card.  I used a copic marker (RV95) to colour the pearls and then added these to the ruched card.  I used Inktense pencils to add a little colour to the HQ Watercolor card and used foam tape to glue this onto the background.  As a final touch I stamped the word ‘hugs’ (in the same Brilliance ink) onto the lower right of the Ruched card and then used pop dots to mount the panel onto the chocolate base card, so you can really see all those yummy distressed edges.  So while still quite ‘simple looking’ this card sneaks in a few extra touches to make it that little bit more special and a little bit more ‘me’.  Now for a closer look at the paper and embellishments – just look at the Ruched card – yummy or what…..
