A new technique (for me at least)!

mermanThe new technique is encaustic wax on paper!! I played around with encaustic wax at the After Midnight Ranch Art Retreat when I went in 2008.  It is a fun medium to use, you can even rubber stamp with it.  It is just blocks of colored wax (beeswax, I think) that you heat and apply to wood, fabric, paper, canvas, and a lot of other surfaces.  The colored background took maybe 20 seconds to create!  It took longer to heat up the encaustic iron then it did to create the background.  All I did was put the colors on the iron and then smoothed it on Heavenly White and wallah, a gorgeous coordinated background for pennies in seconds!  What more does a designer want??????  What you don’t see is there is a beautiful gold wax that is very apparent IRL.  This was made for one if my daughters BFF.  The Merman is from Heart in Touch’s Mermaids sheet #97, one of my favorites!  Isn’t he a cutie?  I colored with copics on Heavenly White and then covered with Diamond Glaze.  The bottom sea is a stamp from OurCraftLounge ….Bubbles.
He is also a cutie!!  The mat is a Sizzix paper that I have had for ages!!  Cardbase is one of my favorites Teal BASIS!

Okay, off to start working on the PT’s paper rings!  Oohh, what is a paper ring?  Everyone has been asking for a sample book of all (or most of ) PaperTemptress’s cardstock so I have figured out how to do it!!  They will be offered very soon for $5. each.  The $5 charge is only for the shipping cost!

  • The encaustic works perfectly for a water background – very cool card!
